Hi Brian,

£3 a month - that's a one-off payment yes? Not a monthly standing order/direct debit to my account?

What happens at the end of the month if you don't want to continue with the lessons right away - maybe a student goes on vacation or something and wants to leave the lessons for a while, and get back to them later?

Thanks ;)

Hi Ric,

It is a monthly subscription which will run on until you cancel it. The beauty is you can stop after one month and simply cancel the subscription. If you want to start again, you simply set up a new subscription using your login details and off you go again.

The most you commit to is one month at a a time that way and you decide if you want to stop.

Does that make sense?

Cheers,

Brian

Thanks Brian,

Sorry to be pernickety, am probably 1% autistic (serious) so dislike open-ended scenarios. How do you cancel if you want to cancel - exactly what do you do, press a button, send an email or what please?

Ric

Hi Ric,

I would work through the whole first lesson before subscribing - no need to subscribe until you have done that. Enjoy!

Hi,

I have subscribed but cannot download Lesson 1 Keyboards - just keep going round in circles and receiving this notification: "The file you uploaded is not a Gigajam performance file. Please try again." Should have been tucked up in bed hours ago, am not very impressed - the free trial lessons downloaded in a split second, was very impressed. No lesson for me today however, it seems.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Ric

Hi Ric,

Thanks for your post - I am sorry you have a problem which is clearly frustrating. We will get you up and running really quickly.

The first free lesson works in exactly the same way as all the other lessons and having a subscription changes nothing other than you have complete access when logged in.

The symptom you described seems to refer to uploading a file, which I assume is when you are using Xtractor. Can you help me diagnose your problem by answering these questions? You can always give me a c all on our freephone nukmber if that is easier.

Lesson 1

1. Can you access this page? Lesson one. Free lesson http://www.gigajamonline.com/content/lessons/eksLesson001/4.html

2. Can you watch the video ok in Exercise 1?

3. When you click the Xtractor button, does it open Xtractor and load the file successfully?

4. If you are recording into Xtractor, can you record and analyse by hitting the big A on Xtractor?

5. If you are trying to upload, by pressing the Upload button does that work with an upload message, or is that when you get your error message?

Lesson 2

1. When logged into the site can you access this lesson
http://www.gigajamonline.com/content/lessons/eksLesson002/2.html

Can you let me know Ric, it will be something really simple and we will get you up and running in no time at all.

Best wishes,

Brian

Thanks Brian,

Bit at a time if ok?

1. yes
2. yes
3. yes
4. the 'A' works but the Record button is greyed out.
5. I was attempting to download Lesson 1 from a different page, a page which showed all lessons - can't find it now - this page seems to work

http://www.gigajamonline.com/content/lessons/eksLesson002/1.html

I think I already did this lesson free - probably need Lesson 3.

What about MIDI please, I selected Microsoft GS I think it was. I run MixCraft software which has MIDI but am not clear what goes on here. Is part of this the reason the record button is grey on the keyboard extractor?

Thanks again,

Ric

Yes thanks to all the same ones again but no record capability. My keyboard is not connected to the pc at this stage you realise, I hadn't got that far last night?

Do I plug the keyboard in now? Sorry, this is all a bit confusing first time round - there was no prompt to plug in, just the option of downloading a lesson, which resulted in that message.

Thanks again,

Ric

Hi Ric,

Great, that is all good news.

OK. So at the moment you do not have the Keyboard connected so that is fine. You can play along with the exercises when you use Xtractor and I would select MS Software Synth as your Output device using the SET UP box on the front of Xtractor. You can then listen to the exercise played through your computers speakers and simply play along....that is fine.

That all works like this:
http://schools.gigajam.com/videochannel.aspx?id=1 using the lessons, videos and xtractor without looking for recording or analysis

If you wish to connect your Keyboard to your computer and be able to use the record, analyse and upload functions then:

1. Connect you Interface to your keyboard and the use to your PC after installing the drivers that allow your interface to communicate with your computer.

2. You should then open an exercise and when Xtractor comes up open up the SET UP box which then allows you to select your MIDI in and MIDI out devices.
You can check out this video http://schools.gigajam.com/videochannel.aspx?id=7 and the process is detailed on our support pages here:
http://www.gigajamonline.com/support/docs/#MIDI_Keyboards

3. When you want to upload follow this video.
http://schools.gigajam.com/videochannel.aspx?id=8

If you get any problems then just let me know.
Thanks Ric,

Brian

Thanks Brian, I can access the lessons now and follow them on a piano keyboard :)

One minor point is that the graphics on the 'tv' screen are not very compressed pixel-wise which makes for difficult reading (notation) at half and full screen size. Is this because I am receiving it online as opposed to from my hard drive (downloaded)? Unfortunately the notation does not appear on the tv transcripts either. I can still follow the lessons but obviously it would be helpful to be able to see the notation clearly when it forms part of the lesson?

Thanks,

Ric

Hi Ric,

That is great, well done.

The graphics displayed in the TV shows were never meant to be legible when broadcast (that was sky's decision not ours) and so even on the best picture quality you cannot follow them during the lesson. I am sorry about that, I agree with you.

They were then supposed to be used in conjunction with the lesson notes, which have lovely graphics and that is why the TV channel comes up in a second window so you can have your full lesson open whilst following the TV Show.

Hope that makes sense.
Cheers
